Kendra Maner
LPC
The purpose of counseling is to attain an individually and/or relationally agreed upon set of goals by both the client and counselor, and utilize these goals to focus on the client's identity and to develop positive coping skills which enable them to build healthy lives and relationships. Throughout my years of counseling, primarily I've utilized Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and a few others when they are beneficial to the client's growth and goal achievement.
In addition to counseling theories, I offer a Biblical counseling perspective which provides a unique perspective for those who wish to include the Christian faith into their counseling experience. Though I work from a Biblically informed perspective, I respect the religious beliefs of all individuals and will work with anyone who is ready to work towards personal and/or relational growth.
Education and Background
I received my MA in Biblical Counseling from Dallas Theological Seminary and a Bachelor of Liberal Arts from Texas A&M University. With four years of teaching experience and several years of counseling experience and other continuing education and training, I have acquired knowledge in the treatment of anxiety, depression, grief and loss, substance abuse, interpersonal relationships, postpartum depression, and marriage/family issues. I have completed basic training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) therapy to utilize in counseling clients with single-event, childhood, continuous, or recent trauma. Additionally, I have completed level 1 training in Theraplay, an attachment therapy to help build stronger connections between parents and children.
