Nicole Silvas Headshot Juday Christian Counseling - Circle

LPC-A

Nicole Silvas

I retired from teaching after 28 years in the classroom. Because adolescents often discuss life issues with teachers, counseling is a natural transition after a diverse teaching career. I have  witnessed numerous challenges that adolescents face that include poverty, abuse, family issues, divorce, trauma, school bullying, cyber bullying, learning difficulties, as well as autism, ADHD, anxiety, and depression. During my teaching career, I had the honor of witnessing many adolescents grow into wonderful responsible adults overcoming many mental health struggles  during high school years. I have counseled adults, adolescents, children, couples, families and groups toward wellness and improved relationships with friends, family, and spouses. I have personally experienced how addiction affects individuals, spouses, children, and communities. Helping individuals and families heal relationships disrupted by addiction and staying on the path of recovery is a great passion and one of my counseling focuses.

Experience & Specializations

With nearly three decades of experience as an educator before transitioning into counseling, I have a deep understanding of the challenges children, adolescents, and families face. I work with children, teens, adults, couples, families, and groups, helping clients navigate anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism, trauma, family conflict, relationship concerns, and life transitions. I am especially passionate about supporting individuals and families affected by addiction, helping them rebuild healthy relationships and maintain lasting recovery. My experience in both education and counseling allows me to meet clients with compassion, practical insight, and hope for lasting change.

Professional Philosophy

I am dedicated to helping others navigate the milestones, tribulations, and trauma that often occur in modern life. I encourage personal choice and growth by helping clients process and adapt to struggles, concerns, and difficulties, fostering resilience and personal growth. I promote a collaborative therapeutic process that allows clients to feel safe, secure, and heard. I use an eclectic approach that includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Therapy, and art and music therapy techniques to address the unique needs of each client.

Education & Licensure

I received my undergraduate degree from University of Houston–Clear Lake in Literature and earned my teaching certificate. I also completed my M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from University of Houston–Clear Lake. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate in the State of Texas and am supervised by C. Huston McComb Jr., LPC-S.

Personal Background

I have lived in Galveston, Brazoria, and Harris Counties and the surrounding areas my entire life. I do not want to live anywhere but Texas. I enjoy reading, watching movies and plays, exploring museums, antique shops, and interesting architectural structures such as cathedrals and historical monuments. I also enjoy live music, cooking, baking, gardening, and traveling. I am married and have two adult sons.
