Experience

Since I was a young boy, I knew I wanted to help people. I spent 10 years as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor, working with the underserved at a nonprofit agency. Then I ran my own business for the next ten years, leading Segway tours and selling Segways to the considerably more privileged. Through those experiences, I learned something important. Regardless of our economic status or background, all of us suffer, and all of us have the same core need to be seen, loved and respected for who we are and the gifts we bring to this world.
And to heal from pain. So I got my Master’s in Counseling, which gave me the tools and techniques to help people move through trauma and experience the lasting healing that allows us to move forward and live with purpose.

Professional Philosophy

Most people don’t come to counseling, brimming with excitement about making changes in their lives, yet ultimately it takes change to grow and emerge from pain.  Pain is why you’re here, and change can be hard, scary, or at least make you hesitant to take the next step. I get that. I’ve been there.
Though we will be partners, you know more about your life than anyone else. I am here to hear you. To see you. To respect your story, treat you with dignity, and help you craft and move toward your vision, whatever that looks like for you.
Along our journey, I will help you make sense of your world and rediscover the hope, purpose, and dignity to bring your confidence back. And heal from what hurts.

Personal Background

I am a wounded healer. I come from a childhood filled with violence, substance abuse and sexual assault. I spent 30 years looking for ways to become the best version of myself, not the me who made destructive choices driven from my past trauma. Then I met God.
Through my own 26-year recovery and faith journey, I’ve learned to move from being a wounded victim to an agent of healing and change. I’ve gained insights from my own healing process that make me keenly aware of the wounds of others, and what it takes to move into lasting healing.
I walked through my final door to freedom when I met my wife 10 years ago. I’ve learned what it means to be loved for all that I am, and to love another for all that she is. For me, that meant dropping my defenses and being open to giving and receiving from others.
My journey has made me a straight shooter. It’s taught me to see and move past the defenses that keep people angry and stuck. Because of that, I’m not for everybody. But I might be just what you need.
