Melissa Anderson

LPC, ASAT

I love people.  I love to see them succeed and to cheer them on when they do.  I love to offer encouragement or lend a listening ear when times are tough.  I love to help others find their strength and worth when life becomes overwhelming.  As a counselor, I believe I have a unique opportunity to show my clients compassion and understanding as they walk through their personal journeys.  I believe allowing people to feel truly seen, heard and understood in the innermost spaces of their lives is one of the greatest gifts I can give them.  As a follower of Jesus, I believe I am called to help others in this way and am committed to doing so.  It is an honor to walk alongside my clients during their difficult times and offer them the support they seek.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas. I am also a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida.   Additionally, I am an ASAT (Associate Sex Addiction Therapist).  Using a Person-Centered approach, I tailor each client’s treatment specifically to meet his or her needs.  I believe therapy should be a collaborative effort between therapist and client to be most effective.  I enjoy counseling from a biblical perspective but respect every individual’s right to his or her own belief system.  As such, Christian counseling is available upon request from the client.

Education and Background

I received my undergraduate degree from Oklahoma Christian University, and my MA in Professional Counseling from Liberty University.  I have a wide variety of experience working with adults, couples, and groups.  While I am able to help with a breadth of issues, I am especially passionate about helping those with mood disorders, such as bipolar disorder.  While bipolar disorder is a serious mental illness, it does not have to be debilitating.  It’s completely possible to live a healthy and full life while also living with this disorder.

I also specialize in working with those who have been affected by betrayal trauma due to sex/pornography addiction or other infidelity not associated with addiction.  Betrayed partners many times experience trauma symptoms that are confusing and difficult to navigate.  Working with a trained professional is the best way to work through this challenging time.

I am happily married to my husband of twenty-five years.  We spent 22 years serving as a military family in the United States Air Force.  We have three children, ages 23, 21, and 16.  In my spare time, I love singing with the worship team at my church and spending time with family and friends.
